After the orcs managed to travel through the Dark Portal, the I War between Alliance and Horde begun. King Llane Wrynn, king of Stormwind, gathered a convention in which Anduin Lothar, the Champion of Stormwind; Khadgar, Kirin Tor mage; Thargas Anvilmar, of Ironforge; Magni Bronzebeard, Thane of Ironforge; Highlord Bolvar Fordragon; Reginald Windsor; Senator Mehr Stonehallow and Senator Barin Redstone of Senate of Ironforge took part. During the convention, a secret Alliance formation has been established. 9th Legion of Azeroth, called the Forgotten Kings, has been formed to protect the Alliance from the Horde.

After betrayal of Garona Halforcen, King Llane Wrynn has been murdered in front of his son, Varian. The Horde railed the city and Anduin Lothar took young Varian with the remaining citizens of Stormwind and escaped from the burning city by boat to the North. After landing in Southshore, the group marched towards Lordaeron, where they seek advice and shelter from Terenas Menethil II. King Terenas formed Alliance of Lordaeron, in order to put an end to Horde raids on Alliance lands.

Meanwhile, Varian met young prince Arthas, son of Terenas. They quickly became friends and their friendship lasted long. After years, Arthas managed to get Frostmourne, became a death knight and as leader of the Scourge, destroyed Lordaeron, murdered his father and merged with the Lich King. Since then, Varian saw Arthas as traitor to the Alliance. The Forgotten Kings, together with armies of Alliance, managed to disperse Horde legions and established peace treaty with their leaders in order to fight with the Scourge together. When Stormwind has been retaken, Varian was elected as a new king and Lady Jaina Proudmoore, his close friend, informed him about the secret legion established by his beloved father, the Forgotten Kings. Now, the legion fights for the new king and protects Alliance lands from the enemies.

After Tirion Fording's victory over the Lich King, the Forgotten Kings returned home to celebrate the victory. For some time the world became quite and tranquile as the Alliance and the Horde rejoiced over the victory and rebuilt their strength after strenuous war. The peace did not last long, however. Neltharion the Earth-Warder, known also as Deathwing the Destroyer, looms over the world with a zeal to destroy the Azeroth. The Forgotten Kings gathered the best Alliance and Horde members to face the new enemy.

Rothus - born soon after Exodar crashed in Azeroth, son of Valaar the Protector, one of higher rank soldiers within the Forgotten Kings. Trained by father and Elders of Exodar, Rothus grew in a spirit to fight with the Blood Elves. After many years of training he gained honour to be appointed Duke among the secret legion. In 4th War with the Blood Elves, his father Valaar, Darrion Warchief and many others has fallen in the battle of Azeroth. Elders' Coucil decided Rothus shall be the new Warchief of the Forgotten Kings. He was appointed to serve King Varian Wrynn and to defend Azeroth from the Scourge. Now, as the leader of the Forgotten Kings, he joined forced with the Horde in order to successfully deal with Deathwing.
